Donate essential materials to the National Ambulance Center

We are requesting donations of a wide range of resources to start the emergency medical system. Please consider if you or someone you know can contribute any of these supplies.

patientTraining materials and medical equipment
The Ambulance Center has obtained generous donations of enough U.S. EMT textbooks for a full class of students, as well as some materials for medical training. However, additional educational and medical supplies are required for the EMT course, including training manikins. Furthermore, every ambulance participating in the Center must be equipped with sufficient medical supplies. Since much of the medical equipment that is disposed of in Western countries is sterilized and reused in Nepal, contributions of supplies will be implemented very efficiently. The recurring costs for the small number of items that are not reused will be relatively small.

Communications equipment
For communication between the dispatch office and the EMTs, the Ambulance Center needs at least 10 handheld two-way radios, a repeater and an antenna to be positioned at a HECAF health center on the rim of the Kathmandu Valley, and a base radio at the dispatch office.

Office equipment
The dispatch office needs computers, printers, furniture, and other office supplies. We would greatly appreciate any contributions of new or used items.

Shipping
The Ambulance Center is seeking assistance in finding an affordable and reliable way to bring materials from Western countries to Nepal. The Center will repeatedly receive donations of equipment from other countries, and standard shipping costs can be prohibitive. Additionally, if you or someone you know is planning to travel to Kathmandu and will have some extra space in your luggage, please assist the Ambulance Center by offering to bring some supplies.

Ambulancesambulance
The National Ambulance Center has received donations of two ambulances, but at least three more are needed to begin treating and transporting patients. The ambulances should be large enough for EMTs to provide effective medical care.

Because patients who telephone the emergency number will receive the fastest medical care possible and rapid transport, far more people are expected to telephone the Ambulance Center than currently use ambulances. An ambulance that is contributed to the Ambulance Center will save more lives than if it were run by one of the multitude of small organizations that operate ambulances in the Kathmandu area.
