EMT course

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Course will teach ambulance staff to provide patients with outstanding treatment.

All ambulance staff working with the National Ambulance Center will be required to complete a comprehensive emergency medical training course. The graduates of the course will be Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

The course will be designed specifically for the available resources and needs of the Kathmandu Valley. It will consist of:

  •  Lecture, skills training, and practice scenarios in the classroom
  • Abundant time in hospitals, where students will practice their skills on patients and will become familiar with common illnesses and injuries of patients arriving in Emergency Rooms
  •  Training in ambulances, to teach students how to give treatment within the limitations of an ambulance and build their confidence for working independently

trainingThe course will be two to three months long, providing time for ample training with actual patients. This emphasis on patient interaction enables students to learn to apply their knowledge more effectively than if they only learn through lectures and practice in classrooms.

Students must pass written and practical exams to graduate from the course.

Refresher courses

To participate in the Ambulance Center, EMTs will be required to attend annual EMT refresher courses. These will ensure that they maintain their skills and learn about new developments in emergency medicine and changes to the EMT course curriculum.
